PARK VIEW PARK HISTORY

In 2016, as part of the 2017 Update to the Parks, Recreation, and Open Space Master Plan, a design charrette was hosted to discuss the elements to be included for 11.9 acres of unimproved parkland located at Park View Rd and Park Ridge Road.  For the time being, this potential park space is referred to as Park View Park.  The parcel is situated in the northeast part of the community and is currently the only park land of this size east of 281.   To view the previous plan, you can click HERE.

Development of Park View Park became feasible in 2022, and a review of the original concept plan was initiated to ensure alignment with the community’s current needs. On May 3, 2022, the City Council approved a contract with Luck Design to develop updated concept designs and schematic plans, along with revised construction estimates for the project.

Community Engagement and Design Process

To gather public input, a community meeting was held on May 12, 2022, followed by an online survey. These input sessions helped shape the design elements, which were further refined during a joint workshop with the City Council and Parks and Recreation Commission on June 7, 2022. The final concept design was presented to the Parks and Recreation Commission on July 11, 2022, and received City Council approval on July 12, 2022.

Project Design and Engineering Phase

From July 2022 to August 2023, the City completed the schematic design and engineering for Park View Park, creating detailed plans and preparing the necessary bidding documents. This phase ensured that the project’s infrastructure and design were aligned with community needs and ready for construction.

TPWD Grant Application and Award

In October 2023, the City of Marble Falls applied for a Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) Local Parks Grant to support the development of Park View Park. This grant program aims to help Texas communities create high-quality recreational spaces. After a thorough application and review process, the City received notice in January 2024 that it would be awarded $726,207.00 in grant funding.

Following the notification, the City worked closely with TPWD to finalize the grant agreements, which were formally executed in July 2024. The City Council’s acceptance of the grant documents secured this crucial funding, enabling the Park View Park project to advance into the construction phase with significant financial backing. This grant, along with the City’s own funding contributions, has allowed the project to proceed with a more comprehensive design that includes expanded trails, nature-based play features, shade structures, and various other amenities that will enhance the park’s usability and appeal.

Current Project Status

With the designs completed, funding secured, and bids awarded, the Park View Park project is ready for construction. On November 5, 2024, City Council formally approved the awarded contracts, marking the final step before breaking ground.

Construction Timeline

Construction for Park View Park is scheduled to begin in January 2025, with an anticipated completion date of October 2025. While there may be temporary restrictions on park access during construction, we are committed to minimizing disruptions and keeping the community informed of any changes.
