Avenue N and Backbone Trail Closed for Major Infrastructure Project

Home - Spotlights Posted on April 24, 2025

The City of Marble Falls announces the temporary closure of the 100 block of Avenue N, as well as impacts to through pedestrian traffic on Backbone Trail and limited access between holes 10 and 11 on the disc golf course, beginning April 28, 2025. These disruptions are part of a major transportation and utility improvement project and are expected to remain in place through Fall 2026. The project is funded by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Hazard Mitigation Grant Program.

This vital infrastructure project aims to prevent future flood-related emergencies and strengthen the city’s core systems. The work is designed to reduce the risk of isolation during extreme weather events and is a response to the flooding that affected the city in 2018.

Adjustments to the disc golf path will be released through updates on social media in the coming days and there will be on-site signage and maps to help direct trail traffic. We ask all park users to follow posted signage and to respect trail closures to ensure the safety of the public and work crews throughout construction.

The project will include the construction of approximately 614 linear feet (LF) of new bridge and 275 LF of new roadway, along with the removal of existing culverts and pavement, and associated earthwork and grading.

Please see the attached graphic for a visual of where the project will be taking place, as well as alternate routes and advised detours to avoid the project site while it is under construction.

  • Advised Detours: 2nd Street to South Avenue S to Johnson Street
