[ARCHIVED] City Spotlight Series: Municipal Court

City Spotlight Municipal Court

This month, our City Spotlight series continues, giving residents an inside look at the departments that keep Marble Falls running. Each month, we highlight a department, sharing what they do, the services they provide, and how they help make our city a great place to live. For December, we’re shining the spotlight on the department who ensures fairness, accountability, and public safety in the community, the Marble Falls Municipal Court.

The Marble Falls Municipal Court plays an important role in the City’s justice system and is often the primary point of contact residents have with the courts. The court handles Class C misdemeanor cases, including traffic citations, city ordinance violations, and truancy matters, helping ensure accountability and public safety in the community.

The Municipal Court is supported by a five-member team that manages daily operations, court proceedings, case documentation, and required state reporting. Two clerks oversee administrative responsibilities and state reporting, while the Juvenile Case Manager works exclusively on truancy cases. A part-time bailiff assists with courtroom operations, helping maintain order and ensure proceedings run smoothly. Court staff also participate in annual training through the Texas Municipal Court Education Center to stay up to date on new laws and maintain required certifications.

A key program overseen by Municipal Court is Teen Court, a joint effort between the City of Marble Falls and the City of Granite Shoals. The program gives local teens a hands-on look at the justice system by allowing them to serve as jurors and attorneys in real cases involving their peers, while being mentored by licensed attorneys. Teen Court emphasizes accountability, education, and positive outcomes through alternatives such as community service hours.

In addition to real-world experience, Teen Court participants may be eligible for scholarship opportunities through partnerships with the Highland Lakes Bar Association. These scholarships recognize students for their commitment leadership and growth in public speaking.

As Marble Falls continues to grow, the Municipal Court continues to adapt by expanding online services such as payments, defensive driving registration, and opt-in text messaging. Through a service-oriented and community-focused approach, the Municipal Court works to ensure a fair, accessible, and positive experience for residents.
