City Spotlight: Development Services

This month, we’re continuing our City Spotlight series, which takes an in-depth look at the departments that keep Marble Falls running. Each month, we highlight one department, sharing what they do, the services they provide, and how they help make our city a great place to live. For October, we’re shining the spotlight on the Development Services Department.

The Development Services team is made up of 10 dedicated employees who work together to plan, build, and maintain a first-class community in Marble Falls. Their efforts have been recognized statewide, with Marble Falls receiving the Comprehensive Plan of the Year Award from the Texas American Planning Association Central Texas Chapter not just in 2024, but also in 2016, honoring the City’s long-standing commitment to responsible growth and community-focused planning.

The department includes four divisions — Building, Code Enforcement, GIS, and Planning — all working toward a shared mission: to educate, support, and help build a better community by providing residents and developers the tools, knowledge, and expertise to manage growth responsibly.

The Building Division plays a key role in protecting public health and safety by ensuring that all construction and building activity meets the City’s adopted codes and ordinances. From reviewing plans and issuing permits to performing inspections and enforcing compliance, this division helps maintain the high standards that keep our community safe and strong.

The Code Enforcement Division focuses on maintaining the health and safety of neighborhoods. Staff work with residents to address code concerns, provide helpful resources, and encourage voluntary compliance to keep Marble Falls clean, safe, and welcoming.

The GIS Division manages the City’s mapping and data systems, providing location-based information about streets, utilities, properties, and public facilities. Their work helps City staff and the public visualize growth, track changes, and make informed decisions about infrastructure and development.

The Planning Division helps shape the future of Marble Falls by managing zoning, platting, and development requests in line with the City’s Comprehensive Plan and long-term goals. Their work ensures that growth happens thoughtfully and preserves what makes Marble Falls unique.

In October, the City of Marble Falls recognized both National Code Enforcement Appreciation Month and Community Planning Month, celebrating the people and programs within Development Services that help our city grow responsibly and sustainably. We appreciate the Development Services Department for their dedication and the positive impact they make on our community every day.
